Special Issue on the Application of Citizen Science
August 31, 2021 Gabriela Merizalderubio

The journal Neotropical Hydrobiology & Aquatic Conservation launches a Call for papers to be included in a special edition on citizen science.

Citizen science is a unique opportunity to generate information on fish at the scale of the Amazon Basin, and to engage citizens as informed and empowered actors for the conservation of Amazonian wetlands and the sustainable management of fisheries.

The Citizen Science Network for the Amazon is a network of organizations collaborating to empower citizens and generate knowledge about the fish and aquatic ecosystems of the Amazon Basin: the largest freshwater system in the world.

To expand knowledge of citizen science experiences and projects, the journal Neotropical Hydrobiology and Aquatic Conservation (Editorial Inia) and the Citizen Science Network for the Amazon announce their alliance for the publication of a special issue on the application of citizen science in the study of fisheries, fish, other aquatic organisms and their habitats, with special emphasis on the Amazon Basin.

Articles should present results of research, management and monitoring projects and programs, in different territories and at different scales, that have used or are using the citizen science approach.

We will receive three modalities for publication:

Scientific articles (up to 10,000 words or 30 pages) are based on a complete investigation, presenting original data, and should be organized under the primary titles of: abstract, keywords, abstract, introduction, methods, results, discussion and references. Short communications are scientific articles of up to 4,000 words or 10 pages, and must have the same structure. Essays and reviews provide a summary on methodologies or state of knowledge of a topic, are more flexible in their structure and can maintain some main titles (introduction, discussion) and incorporate others, but must contain a summary, an abstract, and key words.
