Dialogue of Knowledge Brasília: Practices for Advancing Participatory Fisheries Management in the Brazilian Amazon
From February 3 to 6, 2025, the fifth "Dialogue of Knowledge" on participatory fisheries management in the Brazilian Amazon took place, with over 50 participants, including fishermen, technicians, and government representatives. The event aimed to identify participatory management initiatives, discuss challenges and opportunities in fisheries management, and promote exchange between fishermen and authorities to strengthen fisheries governance in the region. As a result of this space, the Brasília Charter was developed, a document that collects the main demands and proposals from fishermen and fisherwomen of the Brazilian Amazon to serve as an advocacy tool before the authorities. The event was co-organized by the Amazon Waters Alliance, WCS, and Ecoporé, with support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, The Nature Conservancy, the Indigenous Work Center, and the Juruá Institute.
