Voices of the Amazon: challenges and sustainable practices of fishermen and fisherwomen of the Basin

On World Fisheries Day, fishermen and fisherwomen participated in this conversation. The objective was to share experiences and reflect on current challenges, such as climate change, overfishing, and biodiversity loss, and on how to adopt more sustainable practices.

FEB 15 2024 | CONVENTION ON MIGRATORY SPECIES CMS

The Amazonian giant catfish occupied a prominent place in the Convention on Migratory Species, as representatives and researchers from the Ministry of the Environment of Brazil, Wildlife Conservation Society, SERFOR Peru, and the Federal University of Pará discussed the reasons for including the dorado and the piramutaba (manitoa) in Appendix II of the CMS, in a parallel event titled ‘Amazon Giant Migratory Catfish Species: connecting the Amazon from the Andes to the Atlantic Ocean.
