Amazon Fish

AmazonFish is a transnational collaborative project that aims to build a high-quality freshwater fish biodiversity database covering the entire Amazon Basin. This is accomplished by mobilizing and integrating information available from the scientific literature, museum and university collections, online databases, and field expeditions. The AmazonFish consortium (www.amazon-fish.com) is comprised of institutions with extensive experience and international recognition, complementary experience and interests, and strategic objectives in the field of Amazonian fish biodiversity. The consortium includes researchers from the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD) in France, the Ecology and Systematics Unit (UNESIS) of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in Colombia, and the Department of Ichthyology of the Natural History Museum of Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, in Peru. The consortium also benefits from official collaborations with researchers from other national institutions in Brazil, Ecuador and Bolivia (INPA, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP), Universidade Federal do Pará, Museo Ecuatoriano de Ciencias Naturales (MECN), Universidad Mayor de San Simón, Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and Universidad Autónoma del Beni). All these partners bring to the project existing databases on fish biodiversity and a large network capacity that will be of essential importance to identify and involve other potential data providers.
