INABIO


INABIO, the National Institute of Biodiversity of Ecuador, was created by Executive Decree No. 245, attached to the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador (MAE), subject to its leadership and the public policies of the environmental sector.

They have legal personality of public law, with functional, administrative, financial, and budgetary independence with national jurisdiction. In addition, they can exercise the competences and attributions determined for Public Research Institutes (IPI). Internationally, INABIO has associated with a series of entities, including: the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute of Colombia, the Koenig Museum, California Academy of Sciences, National Geographic Society, Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), International Barcode of Life (iBOL), The International Climate Initiative (IKI) - GIZ.

Their mission is to plan, promote, coordinate, execute, and transfer processes of research, science, technology, and innovation of biodiversity and its components, to achieve the development of knowledge and the strengthening of the conservation, use, and sustainable exploitation of this strategic resource.
