NEAP

The Nucleus of Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries of the Amazon (NEAP) of the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) is an academic unit of higher education in postgraduate studies focused on the knowledge of inland, estuarine, and marine water ecology, particularly in fisheries sciences. The Nucleus's mission is "to produce and disseminate knowledge in the area of aquatic ecology and fisheries, aiming at the sustainable exploitation of fishery resources and aquatic ecosystems of the Amazon," and its vision is "to be a reference in research, teaching, and extension in aquatic ecology and fisheries in the Amazon, acting for the sustainable development of the region" (NEAP Regulation, Resolution 794 of 23.01.2019 CONSUN). The main objective of NEAP is to strengthen multidisciplinary research, teaching, and extension in fishery ecology and organisms in marine, estuarine, and freshwater aquatic environments, aiming to obtain subsidies for the sustainable use of these resources. Research includes both environmental and socioeconomic and political aspects, which affect the integrity of aquatic natural resources.
